Picloxidina is a drug that belongs to the group of amoebicides. It is used for the treatment of amoebic infections, such as bowel disease and autoimmune diseases. Picloxidina has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting the production of prostaglandin E2 and interleukin 1β. Picloxidina also inhibits the synthesis of DNA, which leads to cell lysis. This drug is active against a wide range of microorganisms, including high resistance strains and benzalkonium chloride-resistant strains. The polymer formulation is biocompatible and can be used as a coating on medical devices, such as catheters or implants.
