Description

2-Bromo-1-indanone is a macrocyclic inhibitor that binds to the active site of mammalian tyrosine kinases. It inhibits the function of these enzymes by binding to an enolate anion, which prevents ATP from binding to the enzyme and causing a conformational change. This drug has been shown to inhibit angiogenesis in cells, leading to cancer cell death. The 2-bromo-1-indanone (BI) competitively inhibits the binding of catecholamines with adrenergic receptors in cardiovascular diseases. BI also has been shown to be effective against many cancers including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and some forms of leukemia.
