4,4'-Biphenyldisulfonyl chloride is a surfactant that has been shown to have optical, microscopy, and cyclic voltammetry properties. It is soluble in chloroform, dichloromethane, and ether. The biphenyl groups on the molecule are responsible for its hydrophobic nature. 4,4'-Biphenyldisulfonyl chloride has been immobilized onto a substrate for use in monolayers and can be used as an electrode material for cyclic voltammetry. 4,4'-Biphenyldisulfonyl chloride is chiral and can be synthesized with either the R- or S-configuration of biphenyl groups. The nmr spectra of both configurations are identical.
