Furancarboxaldehyde is a molecule with a heterocyclic ring. The molecule has an isomeric form, in which the two rings are not identical. Furancarboxaldehyde can be made by reacting acetoacetate and chlorides in the presence of nitrosyl chloride to yield the desired product. It can also be made by reacting furfural and acid chlorides in the presence of nitrogen gas to yield the desired product. Furancarboxaldehyde is an isomer of 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-furancarboxaldehyde, which differs from it only in that its conformation has been changed so that a proton on one of its carbons is replaced with a tetrahydropyrimidinone group.
