Description

Benzoic anhydride is a carboxylic acid that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of benzocaine, a local anesthetic. The preparation process for benzoic anhydride involves the reaction of benzoic acid with phosgene. This reaction produces high yields and significant reductions in reactant consumption. Additionally, it has been shown that benzoic anhydride can be prepared using a solvent-free method at room temperature without the use of a catalyst, which makes it more environmentally friendly. Benzoic anhydride is used as a precursor in chemical synthesis to produce dibenzoate esters, aromatic amines, and other organic compounds. It can also be used in liquid chromatography to separate organic compounds from each other by their solubility properties.
