1-Benzofuran-3-carbaldehyde is a chemical compound that has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. It inhibits the growth of cells by interfering with fatty acid metabolism, and it also disrupts the balance of fatty acids in cell membranes, which leads to insulin sensitivity. The drug can be used as an alternative to streptochlorin for the treatment of cancer. 1-Benzofuran-3-carbaldehyde has been shown to inhibit the production of amines in bioassays, suggesting its potential use as a therapeutic agent for Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease. 1-Benzofuran-3-carbaldehyde is metabolized by detoxification enzymes in cells, such as methylene oxidase and glutathione S transferases, which are known to be important for cancer prevention. This molecule is enantiopure and can exist in two different forms: R and S. The R form is more active than the S form.
