6-Bromo-3-methyl-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-2(1H)-one is a diagnostic agent that can be used as a marker for hepatitis B virus infection. It has been shown to be an antigenic determinant of the hepatitis B virus and to stimulate antibody production in humans. 6-Bromo-3-methyl-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-2(1H)-one is also used to diagnose cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and carcinomas. This molecule has also been shown to be a useful prognostic indicator for patients with influenza virus infections by helping to differentiate between viral pneumonia and bacterial pneumonia. Furthermore, it has been shown to inhibit the replication of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV) in cell culture.
