1-Benzyl-1H-tetrazole-5-thiol is an antibacterial, antifungal, and tetrahydrofuran compound. It is a white crystalline powder that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. The synthesis of 1-benzyl-1H-tetrazole-5-thiol begins by reacting benzyl isothiocyanate with sodium azide to form benzylazide. This reaction requires refluxing in a solvent such as tetrahydrofuran or ethylene glycol for 3 hours. The reaction then proceeds to condensation using elemental analysis, followed by treatment with thiol and elemental sulfuric acid. Finally, the product is purified through recrystallization with water.
