Description

5-Bromo-8-methoxyquinoline is a natural product that has shown anticancer properties. It binds to topoisomerase I and II, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of DNA strands, and inhibits their activity. This binding prevents the enzyme from cutting DNA, leading to cell death. 5-Bromo-8-methoxyquinoline also acts as a ligand for dehydrogenases, which are enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of other molecules. The structure of 5-bromo-8-methoxyquinoline has been determined by X-ray crystallography studies. The compound has been shown to have fluorescence properties in water solutions and optical properties in organic solvents. This chemical compound also has electrochemical properties when it is applied to aluminium electrodes.
