5'-Bromo-3'-chloro-2'-hydroxy acetophenone is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of chalcones. It has shown antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria, including Salmonella and Escherichia coli. This compound also inhibits the growth of gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. 5'-Bromo-3'-chloro-2'-hydroxy acetophenone is effective against Candida albicans, which is a fungus that causes infections in humans. The mechanism of action for this compound may be due to its ability to inhibit fungal cell wall synthesis by inhibiting chalcone synthase, an enzyme required for the synthesis of chalcones in the cell wall.
