It can also be used to synthesize epidermal growth factor, which promotes the growth of skin cells. 4-Bromophthalic anhydride has been shown to have anticancer activity, and it may also be able to inhibit the production of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and serum enzymes, such as dismutase activity, in mice with lung cancer. This drug also exhibits inhibitory properties on the synthesis of 2-aminoterephthalic acid (2ATPA), which is a precursor for paraquat, an herbicide that is toxic to humans.
