1-Benzylpyrrolidin-3-ol is a chemical compound that is used as a medicine. It is an optically active model protein in hydrochloric acid, which has been shown to inhibit the growth of HL-60 cells. This compound has also been shown to be effective in inhibiting the synthesis of DNA and RNA in these cells by binding to dinucleotide phosphate sequences and reacting with malic acid. 1-Benzylpyrrolidin-3-ol is chemically synthesized using an asymmetric synthesis technique, which uses two different chemicals to produce one molecule. The stereoselective reaction of 1-benzylpyrrolidin-3-ol with sodium carbonate produces both enantiomers, which are then separated by chromatography.
