4-Benzenesulfonylbenzoic acid is a salt of benzoic acid. It is a strong organic acid with a high catalytic efficiency and can be used to synthesize sodium sulfinate, which is an important intermediate for the production of sulfuric acid. 4-Benzenesulfonylbenzoic acid has been used in the synthesis of metal salts, such as copper sulfate, lead sulfate, nickel sulfate, and zinc sulfate. This salt has also been used as a catalyst for the decomposition of benzene into its constituent parts. The catalytic effect of 4-benzenesulfonylbenzoic acid is due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with other molecules. This salt is stable at room temperature and does not react with water or air.
