1-Bromo-2-ethylbenzene is an organic compound that belongs to the family of brominated hydrocarbons. It is a colorless liquid with an unpleasant odor. 1-Bromo-2-ethylbenzene can be used as a flow rate indicator, due to its ability to change color when exposed to certain concentrations of gas. This property can be exploited in carbon nanotubes, which are used for detecting gases or liquids. The use of 1-bromo-2-ethylbenzene as a flow rate indicator has been shown to be effective at differentiating between gases and liquids, with a response time of less than one second.
