Bis(2-carboxyethyl)isocyanurate is a viscosic and luminescent polymer that is used in polyester production. Bis(2-carboxyethyl)isocyanurate is synthesized by the reaction of ethylene with chloroacetic acid, which produces terephthalic acid as a byproduct. The carboxylic acid group on the bis(2-carboxyethyl)isocyanurate molecule can interact with other organic ligands to form supramolecular complexes. These complexes are characterized by their high viscosity and luminescence properties.
