Description :
1H-Benz(Bc)Aceanthrylene is a mutagenic compound that has been shown to cause tumors in the livers of catfish. 1H-Benz(Bc)Aceanthrylene is protonated at physiological pH, and this protonation changes the reactivity of the benzene ring, which induces formylation. The carcinogenic effect of 1H-Benz(Bc)Aceanthrylene may be due to its ability to form reactive intermediates such as areneium ions. The mutagenicity of 1H-Benz(Bc)Aceanthrylene was confirmed by using primary rat hepatocytes and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometric detection (LC/MS).
1H-Benz(Bc)Aceanthrylene reacts with tobacco and produces a mutagenicity that can be detected by mass spectrometry or liquid chromatography.
