Description

3-Bromophthalic anhydride is a small-molecule drug that has been conjugated to proteins and peptides to target specific tissues. It inhibits the activity of ns3 protease, which is a key enzyme in the production of amyloid β-protein. 3-Bromophthalic anhydride has also shown potential as a fluorescent probe for cardiac imaging and as an inhibitor of chloride channels in the nervous system. The synthesis of 3-bromophthalic anhydride involves reacting anthracene with chlorine gas in the presence of polyvinyl chloride, followed by chlorination at the 3 position using thionyl chloride.
