3-Bromo-1-chloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin is a biocide that is used in the treatment of wastewater. It has been shown to be effective at long-term treatment and is commonly used for the control of bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The chemical reactions of 3-Bromo-1-chloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin are similar to those of other halogenated compounds, with the exception that it reacts with fatty acids rather than alcohols. This product also has an inhibitory effect on microorganisms and can be used as a disinfectant.
