- 2-Bromophenacyl bromide
- 2-Bromo-1-(2-bromophenyl)ethan-1-one
2-Bromophenacylbromide is a secretory phospholipase that inhibits the release of fatty acids from phospholipids. It also has the ability to inhibit neutrophil chemotaxis and phagocytosis and to depress the contractile response of papillary muscle in guinea pig ileum. 2-Bromophenacylbromide is an inhibitor of arachidonic acid release from phospholipids, which is a precursor for the synthesis of prostaglandins. 2-Bromophenacylbromide has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on cultured human leukemia cells and various animal tumor cells. The inhibition of cellular proliferation may be due to its ability to inhibit sequences involved in cellular functions such as DNA synthesis, protein synthesis, or fatty acid metabolism.
