Boron trifluoride acetonitrile complex solution (BTFACS) is a chemical reagent that can be used for the treatment of wastewater. It is usually prepared by adding sodium carbonate to boron trifluoride in the presence of an acylation agent, such as acetic anhydride or acetyl chloride. BTFACS has been shown to react with ceftriaxone, yielding a fluorescent product. The fluorescence intensity can be measured using a fluorescence probe and serves as a measure of the reaction rate. The reaction rate can also be determined by measuring the change in absorbance at 313 nm, which is proportional to the amount of hydrogen fluoride produced during the reaction.
