Description

Dasatinib is a small molecule inhibitor of tyrosine kinases, which are enzymes that transmit signals from outside the cell to the inside. Dasatinib blocks the signal from these enzymes by binding to the ATP-binding site on the enzyme and preventing ATP from being released. In vitro assays have shown that dasatinib inhibits cancer cells at concentrations as low as 1 nanomolar. Dasatinib has also been shown to inhibit bowel disease in animal models by blocking a signaling pathway associated with inflammation in the gut. DASATINIB has been shown to inhibit xenograft tumor growth in mice when given orally, and is currently being evaluated for use in human clinical trials for metastatic cancer.
