2-Bromo-3-methylfuran is an antibiotic that has been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), a type of bacteria that causes tuberculosis in humans and animals. It has also been shown to have activity against mycobacteria, which are bacteria that cause tuberculosis in humans. MAC is resistant to many other antibiotics, so 2-Bromo-3-methylfuran may prove to be a good option for treatment. The drug binds very tightly to the bacterial ribosomes and inhibits the production of proteins vital for cell division. It also increases the viscosity of the bacterial cell wall, making it difficult for MAC cells to replicate.
2-Bromo-3-methylfuran can be used concomitantly with other drugs such as pyrazinamide or ethambutol and does not produce any significant adverse effects in humans or animals when taken at doses lower than those required for therapeutic
