The racemic form of this compound has been shown to be an inhibitor of neohydroxylunine dehydrogenase and pteleflorine synthase. The enantiomeric form of 1,3-Benzodioxol-4-amine has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which leads to increased levels of acetylcholine in the brain. This may lead to increased transmission at central synapses and increased stimulation of nerve cells.
