4-Bromo-4'-nitro-1,1'-biphenyl is a nitrating agent that reacts with molecular oxygen to form the isomer 4-nitro-1,1'-biphenyl. This molecule nitrates zeolite and has been used as a catalyst in the selective nitration of aromatic hydrocarbons. This reagent can be used for the production of other isomers of 1,1'-biphenyl, such as 2-, 3-, or 5-nitro derivatives. The catalytic process can be optimized by controlling the reaction temperature, pressure, and time.
