• Description: 2-Bromo-5-(methylsulfonyl)pyridine (2-BPY) is a sulfonamide that has been shown to inhibit COX-2 expression in vitro. 2-BPY is an electrophilic compound and can bind to the sulfhydryl group of cysteine residues in proteins, such as glutathione. This binding leads to desulfonylation and glutathione conjugation, which prevents the formation of reactive oxygen species. 2-BPY displays excellent pharmacokinetic properties, with high oral bioavailability and rapid elimination from the body. This drug has been shown to be effective when administered orally to rats, with no significant side effects observed at doses up to 40 mg/kg.
