Description :
1-Bromo-4-(methoxymethyl)benzene (1BMMB) is an organic compound that can be used as a precursor in the synthesis of organotin compounds. It is commercially available as a mixture of 1-bromo-3-(methoxymethyl)benzene and 2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonyl chloride. 1BMMB has been used to form macrocyclic compounds with sulfide groups. These thiols react with alkyltin compounds in an efficient way to form trichlorides. The bromides are deactivated by reaction with tert-butyl hydroperoxide or tributyltin hydride, while the thiols can be deactivated by reaction with chlorothionyl chloride or dibenzoyl peroxide.
