Description :
6-Bromoquinolin-8-ol is an analog of the natural product quinine, which is a natural anti-fungal agent. Quinine binds to the ATP synthase of fungi and inhibits the production of ATP, leading to cell death. The concentration response curves for 6-bromoquinolin-8-ol were determined using the kinetic method and found to be nonlinear. The drug was also found to be fungitoxic in a dose dependent manner, with lower doses being more toxic than higher doses. This drug has been shown to be effective against resistant cancer cells, although it does not inhibit protein synthesis or DNA replication. 6-Bromoquinolin-8-ol is thermolytic and can be deactivated by azides and nitro compounds.
