Description

Bis[tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium] sulfate is a cationic surfactant that is used in wastewater treatment. It is a stable complex with ethylene diamine, which reacts with inorganic acid and sodium carbonate to form a precipitate. Bis[tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium] sulfate also has biocidal properties, as it can be used for the disinfection of water. The chemical reaction mechanism of bis[tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium] sulfate is not yet fully understood, but it has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal studies.
