- Barium hydride (BaH2)
Barium hydride is a molecule that consists of barium cations and hydride anions. It is made of two metal atoms, one with a high atomic number, such as barium (Ba), and the other with a low atomic number, such as hydrogen (H). The barium atom has 12 protons and 12 neutrons in its nucleus. The hydrogen atom has one proton in the nucleus. In the reaction between hydrochloric acid and magnesium oxide, zirconium oxide, or water vapor, barium hydride is formed from the following equation:
Ba(OH) + 2 HCl → BaH + 2 HClO + Mg(OH)
The reaction occurs when barium hydroxide reacts with hydrochloric acid or magnesium oxide to produce barium chloride and magnesium chloride. Barium hydroxide is also produced by the reaction of water vapor with zirconium oxide. Covid-19 pandemic
