Bis(3,5-dimethylphenyl)chlorophosphine is a palladium complex that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of breast cancer by inhibiting the production of estrogen. It has been synthesized from chloroform and 3,5-dimethylbenzeneboronic acid. Bis(3,5-dimethylphenyl)chlorophosphine has been studied using x-ray crystallography and x-ray diffraction to determine its molecular structure. This compound binds to the arene (aromatic hydrocarbon), which prevents it from binding with tamoxifen, an anti-estrogen drug. Bis(3,5-dimethylphenyl)chlorophosphine also inhibits hydrogenations by catalyzing reactions involving arenes or cyclic compounds such as diphosphines and ligands.
