1-Butyne is a chemical compound with the formula C4H8. It is an unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon that has four carbon atoms, four hydrogen atoms, and one double bond. 1-Butyne can be detected by gas chromatography using boron nitride as the stationary phase. The kinetic data for 1-butene was obtained from a study of catalytic hydrogenation reactions at constant pressure in methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and magnesium salt solutions. The activation energies for the reaction were determined to be 20 kcal/mol for the first step and 12 kcal/mol for the second step. The reaction mechanism involves three steps:
1) formation of butynyl radical;
2) hydrogenation of butynyl radical;
3) cleavage of butyne molecule.
