It is an aglycon that can be used as a transmetallation reagent, and it has been shown to have stereoselective properties. 2-Benzyloxy)bromobenzene can be used to synthesize salicylic acid, which is a growth factor in animals. This compound also has a blood glucose level-lowering effect mediated by the release of insulin from pancreatic β cells. 2-Benzyloxy)bromobenzene can be used as an organocatalyst for the synthesis of diverse organic compounds, including pharmaceuticals and dyes. The conformation of this molecule can be determined by dichroism experiments and it has been shown to inhibit nerve cell death in db/db mice.
