2-Bromocyclohexane-1,3-dione is a lactam with an x-ray crystallographic structure that was solved by the use of hydrogen bonds. This compound is a potent inhibitor of phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase (PI3K). It binds to the ATP binding site on the enzyme and prevents ATP from binding, thereby inhibiting PI3K activity. 2-Bromocyclohexane-1,3-dione is used in organic synthesis as a dicarbonyl building block for the synthesis of heterocycles.
