Bis-(2-chloroisopropyl) ether (BCPE) is a chemical substance that has been used as a solvent in wastewater treatment. This chemical has shown to be potent inducers of CYP1A1 and CYP1B1, two important enzymes involved in the metabolism of many other chemicals. BCPE is also toxic to animals and humans, causing severe skin irritation and corrosion at high doses. BCPE can be metabolized by the liver into chloride, alkylthio group, pyrimidine compound, or fatty acids. It is not known how BCPE affects human health because there are no studies on its toxicity when exposed to humans for short periods of time. However, it has been shown to have adverse effects on laboratory animals when administered at high doses for short periods of time.
