- 4-Nitro-2-benzoylbenzoic acid
2-Benzoyl-4-nitrobenzoic acid (2BA) is an organic compound that belongs to the carboxylic acid class. It is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of 84.4°C and a density of 1.29 g/cm3. 2BA is an interplanar molecule with two benzoate groups and two nitro groups. The nitro groups are located in the ortho positions, while the carboxylic group is in the meta position. This molecular structure is what gives 2BA its efficiency and high boiling point, as well as its dimerization properties.
2BA has been used in some experiments to produce monoclinic crystals, which have a higher density than other types of crystals. These crystals are more useful for X-ray crystallography because they have a lower index of refraction than other types of crystals such as cubic or tetragonal
