2-Benzoylpyrrole is an organic compound that is a pyrrole derivative. It has been shown to be able to chelate metal ions such as copper and iron. 2-Benzoylpyrrole can also react with chloride, furfural, and carbon tetrachloride to produce products including 2-benzoylchloropyrrole and 2-benzoylfurfural. The reaction time for this process depends on the concentration of the reactants, with a reaction time of 3 hours when using 1 g of 2-benzoylpyrrole in 10 ml of chloroform.
2-Benzoylpyrrole is highly toxic to humans and animals because it damages DNA by causing cross-linking between bases. This leads to death from organ failure or cancerous tumors.
