Description

2-Benzylacrylic acid is an organic compound that has been synthesized for use in cell culture experiments. 2-Benzylacrylic acid inhibits bacterial growth by acting as a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme chloride channel. It also has a bactericidal effect on Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus and Streptococcus species, but not Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli. 2-Benzylacrylic acid is heat sensitive and degrades under high temperatures. The effective dose for antibacterial activity is between 1 and 10 µg/mL.
