Description :
(-)-Bicifadine hydrochloride is a compound that has been found to be an active metabolite of bicifadine. It is a dopamine-reuptake inhibitor and serotonin reuptake inhibitor, which is thought to be the cause of its therapeutic effects as an analgesic and antidepressant. (-)-Bicifadine hydrochloride has been studied in humans for the treatment of pain and depression, but not for its use as an HIV treatment. The pharmacokinetics of (-)-bicifadine hydrochloride are similar to those of bicifadine in humans. This compound may also have a role in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, because it inhibits dopamine uptake by binding to the dopamine transporter protein.
