Description

2,5-Bishydroxymethyl tetrahydrofuran is an organic compound that is synthesized from 2,5-dihydroxyacetophenone and hydrochloric acid. It has significant cytotoxicity against cells and inhibits the growth of cancer cells in culture. This compound can be used as a monoclonal antibody to help identify certain types of cells. 2,5-Bishydroxymethyl tetrahydrofuran can also be used as a catalyst in the synthesis of biofuels such as 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and solid catalysts for the production of furanic compounds.
