- Phenol, 3-Bromo-4-Nitro-
3-Bromo-4-nitrophenol is a nitrophenol that is obtained by the reaction of 3-bromo-4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid with sodium nitrite in dilute hydrochloric acid. It has been shown to be a good substrate for phosphatases, and it can also be used as a fluorogenic substrate for fluorescence and catalytic assays. 3-Bromo-4-nitrophenol reacts with chlorine or acetonitrile to form the corresponding sulfoxide or chloronitrile, respectively. The reaction product with acetonitrile can also be cyclized to form oxindole. 3-Bromo-4-nitrophenol also reacts with diels-alder reagents to form fluorescent compounds.
