The synthesis of (S)-2-tert-Butylcarboxamide-4-tert-butoxycarbonylpiperazine is shown in Figure 1. The synthetic sequence starts with the preparation of aldehyde 2 using a palladium-catalyzed reaction with acetone and formaldehyde. The aldehyde 2 is then condensed with amine 3 to afford the amide 4, which is then converted to the desired product 5 by treatment with acid.

The product is an organic compound that has been used as an immunosuppressant and antiasthmatic agent. It binds to specific sites on cell membranes and blocks the action of histamine, which leads to relief from inflammation and constriction of air passages.
