Description

B-S-(4-Methoxybenzylmercapto)-b,b-cyclopentamethylene-propionic acid is a surfactant that is used in the production of magnetic particles. It is used as a matrix for lipoproteins and cholesterol esters to form liposomes. This compound also has the ability to catalyze the conversion of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen, which may be useful for cleaning up chlorinated organic compounds. B-S-(4-Methoxybenzylmercapto)-b,b-cyclopentamethylene-propionic acid can be used to detect signals from glucose in blood samples. The signal detection can be accomplished by applying a magnesium ion solution to the sample and measuring changes in electrical current or light intensity.
