5-Bromo-1,2,3-trichlorobenzene is an organic compound that has been classified as a human carcinogen. It can be found in tissues and has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activities of carbonic anhydrase, acetylcholinesterase, and phosphodiesterase. 5-Bromo-1,2,3-trichlorobenzene also reacts with cellular lipids and proteins. The lipid peroxidation caused by this chemical leads to changes in cellular morphology and fatty acid composition. The toxicity of 5-bromo-1,2,3-trichlorobenzene is also mediated through its ability to inhibit protein synthesis. This chemical also binds to DNA bases and alters DNA topology.
