Benzoylmetronidazole is an antibiotic that is used for the treatment of several infections, including trichomonas vaginalis, in humans. It is also used to treat a number of bacterial and protozoal infections in animals. Benzoylmetronidazole has been shown to be effective against Tritrichomonas foetus and Trichomonas vaginalis in wastewater treatment plants. The drug inhibits cell growth by preventing the formation of DNA, RNA, and protein. Benzoylmetronidazole has also been shown to inhibit cardiac muscle cells and ovary cells as well as plasma concentrations of benzoylmethane, which may be due to its ability to prevent the oxidation of benzoate.
