It is an inhibitor of the enzyme murein hydrolase, which is involved in the biosynthesis of bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan. Boc-D-glu-OBzl has potent antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium smegmatis.
