5-Bromo-2-chloronicotinonitrile is a boronic acid that reacts with pyridine to form a cross-coupling product. It is used for introducing the boron atom into a molecule. This compound has been shown to inhibit kinases, which are enzymes that catalyze the transfer of phosphate groups from ATP to other molecules. 5-Bromo-2-chloronicotinonitrile also inhibits protein tyrosine phosphatases and serine/threonine kinases, and it is an effective inhibitor of heteroaromatic ring systems such as benzofuran and indole. The molecular modelling studies on this compound have revealed that it has good inhibitory potency against several targets including the pyridine ring.
