Description

Bismuth oxychloride is a bi-metal compound that consists of bismuth and oxygen. It is used in analytical chemistry as a standard for the determination of the concentration of hydrochloric acid in solution, using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Bismuth oxychloride has been shown to have photocatalytic properties and can be used as an analytical reagent for the determination of sodium carbonate, which is often used in the synthesis of bismuth oxychloride. The chemical stability of this compound can be increased by using sodium citrate or other bases with high pH values during synthesis.
