4-Bromo butyronitrile is a halogenated organic compound with anticancer activity. It has been shown to have synergistic interactions with other anticancer drugs and has shown inhibitory activities against leukemia cells. 4-Bromo butyronitrile binds to the dopamine D3 receptor, which is a G-protein coupled receptor that can be found on the surface of cancer cells. When activated, this receptor leads to an increase in intracellular cAMP levels. 4-Bromo butyronitrile also inhibits chloride channel activation, which inhibits the hyperpolarization of the cell membrane and prevents voltage gated calcium channels from opening. This inhibition results in decreased intracellular calcium levels, leading to apoptosis or programmed cell death for cancer cells.
