Description

1-tert-Butyl-3,5-dimethylbenzene is an organic solvent that is used in a variety of industrial applications. It can be used as a reaction vessel for chemical reactions and as a viscosity reference fluid. 1-tert-Butyl-3,5-dimethylbenzene is found in humans and has been shown to flow through the body by a kinetic method. This organic solvent has also been shown to have chromatographic properties that can be used in the separation of solutes. 1-tert-Butyl-3,5-dimethylbenzene is synthesized by reacting tertiary butanol with benzene at high temperature and pressure in the presence of supercritical carbon dioxide or superacidic acid. The solvent can be used to extract solutes from fluids or cells with high concentrations of water such as plasma.
