Biuret is a chemical compound that is used as an analytical reagent in the quantitative analysis of proteins. It is also used as a catalyst for the asymmetric synthesis of organic molecules. Biuret can be produced by the reaction of hydrochloric acid and methyl ethyl alcohol. The reaction solution formed from this process contains copper complex and biuret, which may then be separated using an analytical method such as FT-IR spectroscopy to determine the concentration of copper in the sample. Biuret has been shown to have high values when analyzed with FT-IR spectroscopy and is commonly used in analytical chemistry. Biuret reacts with proteins such as albumin, hemoglobin, and myoglobin to form protein-biuret complexes that are highly colored. This property allows it to be applied to biological samples for the detection of these proteins in urine, blood, or tissue samples. Biuret also catalyzes oxidation reactions by being reduced to hydrogen biurea on contact
